Born and raised in Colorado, I am grateful to still call this beautiful state home. Growing up with close access to the Denver music scene made for an interesting and exciting high school experience. I fell in love with the Grateful Dead, bluegrass and jam bands when I was 15, and my exposure to those communities ultimately led me down the path of a spiritual seeker, fascinated by alternative lifestyles and perspectives.
By the time I was 18, I knew that a traditional college experience was not for me. Instead, I enrolled in a work study program at a residential yoga ashram…and then stayed for 7 years, diving deep into meditation & ancient yogic and Tibetan Buddhist practices and teachings, practicing for two hours every day, 7 days a week. I had done 35,000+ hours of meditative discipline before age 25. My time living at the ashram set in motion the healing journey I have been on (and still am) for the past 15 years. I still have a daily practice, though it is less rigorous and has evolved to include somatic healing approaches and other forms of meditation like yin yoga and yoga nidra, in addition to seated practice. I try to listen to what my body-mind needs each day and season of my life. My interest in acupuncture grew out of my general interest in traditional healing methods as well as my own experience as a patient receiving acupuncture to heal from chronic pain that was the result of being rear-ended three times in the span of two years. These physical traumas resulted in severe chronic pain from whiplash, a head injury, and a fragile nervous system. After years of suffering, acupuncture helped me find relief from pain but also helped me to feel more connected to my body and more resilient to stressors.
I started thinking about acupuncture as a career, and actually toured the school I ended up attending, Southwest Acupuncture College, when I was 21. I knew I wasn’t ready for such an undertaking yet, but it was always in the back of my mind. After caring for my father for two years in my early twenties during his rapid cognitive decline due to Lewy Body Dementia, I knew that healing work and holding space for others is my calling. I moved out of the ashram at 25, just after my dad passed, ready for a new adventure. I always knew I wanted to combine acupuncture and skincare, so I enrolled in esthetician school and the following year enrolled in acupuncture school.
The vision of Yin Time has been long in the making, and a labor of love. I am in love with my career and feel so fortunate to have found work that is deeply fulfilling and feels like an expression of my soul.
